Aerobility Expands Reach with First Junior Aspiring Pilot Programme at Tatenhill Airfield
Aerobility, the UK-based aviation charity dedicated to providing the magic and wonder of flight to the disabled community, has successfully completed its first Junior Aspiring Pilot Programme at their base at Tatenhill Airfield in the Midlands.
This milestone marks a major step forward in Aerobility’s mission to expand access to aviation opportunities for disabled individuals across the UK. The programme, designed for young people aged 12–18 living with a disability and aspiring to become aviators, has previously only been run at Aerobility’s headquarters at Blackbushe Airport, Surrey.
Supported by a passionate team of volunteers and experienced staff, the week-long course welcomed four exceptional participants, each of whom took to the skies and experienced first hand what it’s like to be behind the controls. The programme provided immersive, hands-on learning, building both confidence and practical knowledge.
“This is the first time Aerobility has delivered this programme away from the comfort of our Headquarters at Blackbushe; this could not have been possible without the continued support of our Charity partners and our amazing Volunteers” said Al Rosser Aerobility’s Chief Flying Instructor, “It’s a proud moment for us and a clear demonstration of our commitment to expand our reach far and wide supporting the disabled community in accessing the aviation industry”
Aerobility is especially grateful to the Midlands Air Ambulance, who generously donated the use of their facility to the participants for the duration of the course, providing a professional and inspiring environment. The charity also extends its thanks to Rolls-Royce, who hosted an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of their facility—an unforgettable highlight for the participants
“This course offers participants a unique insight into the world of aviation” said Hailey Crumpton, Activities and Education Coordinator at Aerobility. “With guidance from experienced professionals, they explore the training process and syllabus in a way that’s both informative and inspiring.”
Following the programme’s success, Aerobility is delighted to confirm that a second Junior Aspiring Pilot Programme at Tatenhill is already in the works, with applications opening soon.
